Best Red Wine Vinaigrette

This red wine vinaigrette has to be one of my favorite salad dressings. Not only is it easy to make, but it is so versatile.

Red Wine Vinaigrette Ingredients

Red Wine Vinegar

Red wine vinegar is the star of this dressing, with fantastic health benefits.

Red wine vinegar contains powerful antioxidants, including resveratrol. These antioxidants can help prevent cellular damage and prevent chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

Olive oil

Olive oil is a healthy monounsaturated fat, and olive oil is full of antioxidants and may lower the risk of heart disease. Not to mention olive oil contains anti-inflammatory properties.

Garlic

Garlic not only adds great flavor to foods but has excellent healing benefits. Throughout history, garlic has been used to treat various medical conditions. Garlic is packed full of vitamins and antioxidants and can help boost the immune system, and reduce cholesterol and heart disease.

Red Onions

Red onions are loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants. Red onions have been known to help lower bad cholesterol, promote cardiovascular health, reduce high blood pressure, and protect against cancer.

Honey

Honey is rich in antioxidants and contains several vitamins and minerals.

How to Make a Vinaigrette

Homemade vinaigrette is a healthier choice than a store-bought vinaigrette. Making a vinaigrette is easy and helps avoid hidden additives and preservatives in store-bought vinaigrettes.

The main ingredients include vinegar and oil, and mustard is added as an emulsifier. You can easily replace the vinegar you use, such as red wine vinegar, white wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, or champagne vinegar. You can also change the type of mustard and add your choice of herbs, spices, and seasoning.

I like using mason jars to make my vinaigrette. Mason jars are great for mixing the ingredients and perfect for storing in the vinaigrette in the refrigerator.

When I make my vinaigrette, I add all the ingredients into the mason jar, put the lid on, and give it a quick shake. So easy and healthy.

Ingredients

Best Red Wine Vinaigrette
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp spicy mustard
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped garlic
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped red onion
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • pinch pepper

Instructions

  1. Finely chop garlic and red onion.
  2. Add all ingredients into an 8 oz or 16 oz mason jar.
  3. Place lid on the mason jar and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.
  4. Enjoy this vinaigrette on your favorite salad.

Notes

Red onions can be replaced with shallots.
